Not only does a career as a CNA offer a nice salary and room for promotions, but nursing assistants in Mississippi, like elsewhere in the United States, also do not need to go through a strict licensing procedure.
The Mississippi State Department of Health sets the regulations pertaining to the training and certification of CNAs in Mississippi. In accordance with the Department, aspiring CNAs in Mississippi must complete an approved nursing assistant program. Another mandatory requirement is to pass the two-part Pearson Vue CNA competency exam with at least the current minimum acceptable score.
One of the most appealing features of a career as a nursing assistant in Mississippi is that the certification process is astonishingly easy. After you have passed the CNA competency exam, Pearson Vue will send your score to the Mississippi Nurse Aide Registry. If your scores on both parts of the exam are acceptable, the Registry will add your name to their list of active nursing assistants in the state.
At times, you may need to verify your CNA certification status in Mississippi either for yourself or a prospective employer. You can easily do this by visiting the Pearson Vue website and clicking on “Registry Services.” You will just need to enter your social security number, first name and last name, or certification number to verify your certification status with the Mississippi Nurse Aide Registry.
CNAs in Mississippi are required to renew their certification every two years. You are required to work at least eight hours as a paid nurse aide during the past 24 months in the state for you to be eligible for CNA certification renewal. Pearson Vue will mail you a notification about 60 days before the expiration of your certification. You can find the Registry Renewal Form on the Pearson Vue website also if, for any reason, you do not receive it.
You must reinstate your certification if you do not work eight hours or more as a CNA during any two-year period. The only way to do this in Mississippi is to pass the competency exam again. If you get a passing score, your name will be placed back on the Registry.
